Meet our new C.A.R.E.S. Coordinator!

Dear Reader,

📣 We’re excited to introduce the newest member of the Rochester Area Autism Association team!

Please join us in welcoming Allie Masterfield, our new CARES Coordinator! We’re thrilled to have Allie join RAAA and look forward to the experience, passion, and perspective she will bring to our CARES program.

CARES (Connecting Autism Resources, Education & Support) helps connect autistic individuals and their families with resources, education, parent support, and opportunities to build meaningful connections with others who understand their journey.

As our CARES program continues to grow, we’re excited to have Allie on board helping us support families. Our CARES class is currently in session if you have questions or know someone who is interested please don't hesitate to reach out to Allie at: call/ text: 507-251-2016 or email: carescoordinator@rochesterautism.org.

Let's Get to Know Allie!

Q: Tell us a little about yourself and what led you to the CARES Coordinator position with RAAA?

I moved to Rochester from Louisville, Kentucky about two years ago and am married to my best friend, James. Together, we have three awesome kiddos, Izzy, Roman, Ralphie, and our sweet dog, Remington!

I was drawn to the CARES Coordinator role because I am an autism mom! My 7 year old, Roman has autism. I have a passion to serve and support others just like me. I know what it's like to grieve the path you thought your child would take, to feel isolated and sometimes hopeless, and want to help in any way.

Q: What do you hope families experience when they connect with CARES?

I’m so excited to connect with families, hear their stories, and walk alongside them on this journey. I look forward to celebrating the smallest victories, offering support through the toughest moments, and helping families find hope and a path forward.

Q: What are you most excited about as you begin working with families in our community?

My hope is that families walk away from each CARES session feeling supported, heard, and understood. I want to help fill our caregiver “toolbox” with skills, knowledge, and resources needed to confidently care for and advocate for our loved ones.

Q: What is your favorite place to go in Rochester?

One of my favorite places to visit in Rochester is the farmers market! I love supporting local businesses, discovering unique products, and enjoying delicious goodies!

Welcome Allie!

Also because so many of you asked, we were able to reschedule the meeting with Maja Katusic, MD, from Mayo Clinic, on medication options for children with co-occurring ADHD, anxiety, and aggressive behaviors.

This session will explore medication approaches that may help address these challenges and provide families and caregivers with valuable information to support conversations with their child’s healthcare team. Whether you’re a parent, caregiver, or professional working with families, this is an opportunity to learn more, ask questions, and gain insight into supporting children with complex needs.

Dear Reader, RAAA is excited to once again partner with Olmsted Medical Center and Autism Society of MN to offer our 4th Annual Sensory-Friendly Vaccine Clinic, created specifically for individuals who may need additional time, support, patience, or assistance when receiving a vaccination. We understand that a typical clinic environment can be difficult or overwhelming for some autistic individuals and others with sensory, communication, behavioral, or accessibility needs. This clinic is...

Dear Reader, As parents, we know that raising a child with autism can come with a lot of different emotions. There can be relief when you finally have some answers, but also worry, confusion, frustration, or just the feeling of, “Okay…now what?” There really isn’t a right or wrong way to feel, and there definitely isn’t a perfect roadmap for figuring everything out. That’s one of the reasons I love the C.A.R.E.S. parent support group. It’s a chance to sit down with other parents who...

Dear Reader, Change can be hard for any child. But for our children with autism, big changes can feel enormous. A new school year often brings unfamiliar routines, new teachers, different expectations, and changes that can create stress for the entire family. At the Rochester Area Autism Association, we know that back-to-school season can be both exciting and challenging. That's why we don't want you to face it alone. We invite you to join us for an evening dedicated to supporting parents and...
