RTAAF's Response to Recent Public Comments on Autism

Dear Reader,

At RT Autism Awareness Foundation (RTAAF), our mission is to empower autistic individuals and their families to live full, meaningful lives. We envision a world where neurodiversity is embraced and all people are valued for who they are—not limited by outdated views or harmful misconceptions.

In response to recent public comments about autism, we want to reaffirm our commitment to compassion, understanding, and respect for the autistic community. At RTAAF, we reject narratives that portray autistic individuals as broken, incompetent, or burdensome. These views only distance us from the truth: autistic people are capable, worthy, and full of potential.

RTAAF stands firmly against ableism (systemic discrimination of individuals with disabilities) in all its forms. We challenge systems and beliefs that devalue individuals based on disability, and instead, we promote equity, dignity, and access to opportunity for all—regardless of neurology.

We believe that all life is valuable. Autistic voices belong at the center of the conversation, and their contributions enrich our communities every day.

Rather than focusing on statements that cause harm or confusion, we choose to focus on what truly matters—uplifting autistic voices, expanding access to support, and building a world where all individuals and families feel seen, supported, and celebrated.

If you or someone you know would like to talk more about what’s happening, our staff and board are here and ready to listen. Also please let us know if you would like to be involved in the important work we do. We are with you—every step of the way.

With respect and resolve,

RTAAF Board of Directors & Executive Director
